On April 1, 2022, Bert terHart set out to cross Canada solo by canoe following traditional Indigenous and voyageur routes from coast to coast.

Starting at the mouth of the Fraser River in British Columbia, he paddled and portaged 8000 km, finishing at Big Shippagan Light, New Brunswick on October 1, 2022. He is only the second person to have completed a single season, solo canoe trek and the first to do so using no electronic navigation tools whatsoever. Bert has come as close as possible to experiencing this country as did First Nation peoples and Canada’s great cartographers and explorers.
