The GHMS Annual General Meeting will be held on March 30, 1-3:30 pm at the Community Hall, lower level. Doors are open at 12:45. Please enter by the side door.
Please come early to register, the film starts at 1 pm, and the business meeting at 2 pm. The AGM and film are open to the public but only current museum members can vote during the business meeting. Memberships can be taken out or renewed during registration or renew/join online before the meeting or in person at the Museum (Saturdays 11 – 4 pm).
Only current members will be sent the draft 2024 AGM minutes, 2025 AGM agenda, financial report and other AGM documents.
Refreshments (tea/coffee/water) will be provided.
1pm – Gabriola Tides, Stories of Silva Bay
Public Film Screening: Gabriola Tides, Stories of Silva Bay, speaks of the history of Silva Bay, a culturally diverse community in the early 1900s. Silva Bay was home to First Nation families, as well as Japanese, Portuguese and Canadian settlers. Commercial ventures like fishing, logging and boat building existed side by side with a store, a marina, a school and a log church. Featured in the film’s soundtrack is the original song, Ode to Silva Bay, composed by Kitty Silva, back in 1950.
A short discussion and Q&A with filmmaker and editor, Tobi Elliott, and GHMS Japanese Project Artistic Director, Yarrow Koontz, will immediately follow the film screening.
