Join Origami artist, Naomi Mayer, and storyteller, Susan Yates, for an afternoon of Japanese culture and stories.
Naomi Tsukiko Mayer is a Nikkei fourth generation Japanese Canadian. Her family was forcibly uprooted during WW11 and she has been researching her own history. She is an active member of the Central Vancouver Island Japanese Society (7 Potatoes) and is happy to share Japanese culture through her origami art. Learn the ancient art of paper folding!
Susan Yates is known for her vast library of storybooks and her engaging way of sharing these stories with people of all ages. She will be reading from several story books about the Japanese Canadian experience and forced uprooting during WW11. Suitable for children and adults.
Also included is a short talk on the Museum’s new Omoide exhibit and Japanese Canadian heritage on Gabriola.
All supplies included.
